The Future of Strathaven Town Mill
The vision for volunteers at Strathaven Town Mill Art and Heritage (STMAHC) is to preserve the Mill and to to upgrade it for the benefit and enjoyment of our community.
Feasibility and Design
Back in 2013, STMAHC was fortunate enough to secure funding from LEADER MTI to meet the cost of a Feasibility and Design Study being produced by “Dress for the Weather”. This study set out in detail a proposal for major upgrade and reconfiguration works. The Study was discussed at a public meeting back in February 2014 attended by the authors of the report, the committee members, members of STMAHC and general members of the public. The meeting was very positive. Minutes were taken from the presentation and discussion ensued. It was noted that funding was essential to bring its vision to fruition.
Progress since 2014.
STMAHC are aware that in order to bring their vision to fruition, robust funding is essential. However, since 2014, funds have become available through fundraising, events, classes, donations, grants and sponsorship to make significant improvements to the Town Mill. We have come a long way since 2014.
The theatre is now fully functional, with good stage lighting and state of the art sound system, along with a recording facility on site. The Granary has been renovated to the highest standard and is a great alternative venue for musical events, private parties and functions.
The Thomson Hall has been fully restored with the addition of kitchen/bar and new toilets, including a accessible toilet downstairs.
The Hub is the most recent refurbishment, suitable for small group meetings. The specially commissioned mural in the space adds ambiance and style.
The emphasis is on the community, our community.
OUR AIM FOR THE FUTURE
With a weather proof and warm building we can continue to provide excellent facilities for musical events, arts and meeting places for the community.
